The "Notes and Reminiscences" of this Salem, Mass., sea captain consist of a bound volume of poems, prose, and comments with drawings and illustrations of many subjects, including the life of seamen, his travels, gold prospecting, geography, history, theology, philosophy, and nature. The typescript letters are copies of original Bullock letters to his mother in 1851 concerning his life as a gold miner in California and comments on several Salem-area men, including Nehemiah Haskell, whose photograph is included as well. The map photocopy is of an original map by Bullock of Trask's Mill Pond in Salem, Mass., with notes on the location of William Trask's mills.
